The Bel Alton Volunteer Fire Department regrets to announce the passing of Past EMS Chief, Wayne Wathen. Wayne first joined our department on February 1, 1982 at the age of 18. He was a member for the next 4 years, before transferring to the Charles County Rescue Squad. Wayne then returned to our department in 1996, and became our very first EMS Chief. Wayne was also the first La Plata Police Officer to hold the title of Captain, where he served the La Plata community for 30 years.
